A secret, kept for you.

For half a century the house belonged to an order of nuns and was closed to the world. Now it opens to one couple at a time: every room, the chapel and all 18 acres, with nobody else checking in after you.

Its story

A couple in silhouette in the doorway at the end of the hall, the chandelier lit above
A quiet moment in the hall, beneath the chandelier.

Marry, dance, and wake up here.

Say your vows in the Morning Room, the chapel or under the trees. Dance beneath the Ballroom chandeliers. Then climb the stairs to bed, with everyone you love asleep under the same roof.

To those with the key

Concealed doors in two of the bedrooms still lead up into the clock tower. For your weekend, every key in the house is yours.

The clock keeps time. You needn’t.

Benjamin Vulliamy’s clock has looked out from the tower, east, north and west, since 1847. For your wedding, let it: nobody here is counting.

A myriad of mysterious stairs and doors.

Make your entrance down the grand staircase and steal away to the candlelit stairs once the dancing starts. In between: a fairy door in the trunk of a tree, an egg-shaped ice‑house in the woods and pantries stocked with Yorkshire Tea, open day and night.

Six angels to play you down the aisle.

The chapel’s nineteenth-century glass holds six angels, each playing an instrument, and their light falls across every blessing here.

During the Second World War, York Minster’s Great East Window was hidden at Thicket; fragments found since are set into the bedroom windows.

Something borrowed.
